Taking the Gospel to the Streets
Revival-USA is one man with a God given passion to proclaim Jesus Christ as Lord (Phil. 1:18; Phil 2:11; ) at as many major outdoor community events as possible for the glory of our Father. The purpose is purely & simply to glorify our great God & Savior.
The Apostle Paul says in I Cor. 3: 5 – 7, ” What then is Apollos? And what is Paul? Servants through whom you believed, even as the Lord gave opportunity to each one. I planted, Apollos watered, but God was causing the growth. So then neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but God who causes the growth.”
.
The quote below reflects a human perspective the mission.
“I simply argue that the cross should be raised at the center of the marketplace as well as on the steeple of the church. I am recovering the claim that Jesus was not crucified in a cathedral between two candles, but on a cross between two thieves; on the town’s garbage heap; at a crossroad so cosmopolitan that they had to write His title in Hebrew and Latin and Greek … at the kind of place where cynics talk smut, and thieves curse, and soldiers gamble. Because that is where He died. And that is what He died for. And that is what He died about. That is where church-men ought to be and what church-men ought to be about.”
George Macleod, founder of the Iona Community in Scotland
Method of Revival-USA
As the early church did more than 2,000 years ago Revival-USA takes the Gospel to people where people gather. In our day these are concerts, major sporting events, parades and festivals. The Bible tells us faith comes by hearing. So open air proclamation is the main method of proclaiming Jesus is Lord.
In these environments, you are competing with the noise and distraction of the environment and also are combating the spiritual wickedness in high places (Ephesians 6:12). So you must have a consistent, clear & direct proclamation.
By hearing the Word proclaimed people pause and think at least for a moment, and oftentimes begin a conversation regarding beliefs and purpose. For the most part people respond maturely because they are hearing eternal Words of truth proclaimed as the Bible tells us.
History of Revival-USA
Revival-USA began in 1996 when Bill Adams was sent by God to Buckhead, an infamous bar district in Atlanta, Georgia, to speak with people about the Christian faith. What he learned there astounded him and helped further his cause to evangelize the U.S.A. He realized that most people had an impression of God, but nearly all of these impressions were unfounded and not based on the Bible. Secondly he noticed that there was no one else hardly anyone was searching for answers because no one was presenting the truth so they instead were “living out” their lives bereft of hope.
Soon after Bill’s discovery, he set out to the streets of Buckhead fulltime, leaving his high profile job behind in order to bring the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the 2,000-5,000 people “partying” there every night. He realized immediately that thousands of people could be reached with God’s message on the streets, and that many of these people were willing, and wanting to listen. Thus began what eventually would become Revival-USA.
Where Revival-USA has been to Minister
In September 1998, Revival-USA began to travel, heading first to our nation’s capital during the Presidential Impeachment trial. High profile events quickly became the norm and since 2001 Revival-USA has attended: the last nine Super Bowls; many, many NASCAR races in Atlanta; eight NBA All-Star Games; the Major League Baseball All-Star Games six times; the NCAA Final Four six times; the 2002, 2006 & 2010 Winter Olympics and the 2004 Summer Olympics; 2006 World Cup in Germany; 2007 World Cricket Championships in Barbados; 2007 Pan AM Games in Brazil; 2007 Rugby World Cup in Paris, France and countless sporting events, concerts, festivals and conventions in Atlanta.
Along the way, the Gospel has been taken to well over 10 million people.
Revival-USA Results
The results of our take-it-to-the-streets ministry have been extensive and significant. People respond most commonly in any of four ways: by affirming the message with a nod, a wink or a verbal amen, denying the message by ignoring it and the person sharing it, pausing to talk or mocking us.
Most of the time, the results are very pleasant, but even when we are ignored or mocked, our mission of bringing the message of God to every person at a crowded event has still been accomplished. Because to ignore something, you must first recognize its existence, and to employ mockery as resistance to an idea shows strong signs of immaturity and fear, exactly the type of person most in need of God’s love.
Anyone willing can receive literature on the spot as well as discussion, which can turn into group prayer sessions, prayer requests for personal situations, confessions of sins, theological discussions as well as people discussing their gratitude for our presence at the event. Finally and sometimes most important, when people see us at multiple events, an additional door is opened for an extended relationship and ministry.
Revival-USA’s Hopes for the Future
Revival-USA’s hopes for 2010 are to continue to grow in the grace & knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ & proclaim with Jesus as Lord with more power & authority.
Lord willing as more Word is sown & watered He will continue to advance the Kingdom of His dear Son.
